To apply to the GAP Program, fill out our initial questionnaire below. After receiving your questionnaire, if we think that there might be a good fit, we will email you the full application to complete. After we receive your application, a GAP representative will contact you to set up an interview.
- The GAP Program runs from mid-August to early May.
- The price of a GAP Year varies somewhat, but you can expect to pay around $9,000. Most Gappers raise funds to meet this fee.
- Kairos will only accept 10 applicants at most for the GAP Program – 5 men and 5 women. Once accepted, a $500 nonrefundable deposit is required to reserve your spot.

About the GAP Program
The GAP Program is an exciting internship for 18-22 year-olds from Kairos outreaches all over the world. As a GAP intern, you get to be on the front lines of Kairos' work of building a community of disciples on mission. Practically this means taking a year off from school, moving to a new city, living in household, and serving in the community, university outreach, and youth programs.
The GAP Program will be hosted in Lansing, Michigan. Gappers serve with and participate in the University Christian Outreach chapter at Michigan State University and Lansing Community College.

How much does a GAP year cost?
Financing your GAP year will cost you about $9,000. This is broken down into two main components: the program fee and living expenses. The program fee accounts for roughly forty percent of the total cost and covers expenses like retreats, conferences, GAP training, staffing cost, and activities that you will participate in during the course of the year. Living expenses denotes things like rent, food, spending money, and insurance.
How can I finance my GAP year?
Once accepted into the program you will receive personal coaching on how to fundraise for your GAP year. Note that donations made to cover living expenses are not tax deductible for donors, however, donations made towards the GAP Program fee are. Further guidance and discussion of financial matters and policy will be handled during the application process.
Can I choose where I serve?
In the past, the GAP Program has been run out of different cities simultaneously. Currently, the GAP program is only running in Lansing, Michigan.
Is there a deadline for applying?
Yes, the Early Registration deadline is February 1st and the application is free. Registration will remain open until March 1st and the application fee is $30. No applications will be accepted after March 1st.
When will I know if I'm accepted?
We do rolling admissions which means we'll contact you as soon as you're accepted to the program.
When does the GAP start and end?
The GAP program begins in mid-August with University Christian Outreach' Campus Mission Academy, Youth Leader Development, and our GAP opening retreat. The GAP Program runs until May of the following year. Exact arrival and ending dates will be discussed during the application process.
